“Mindful Awareness - Experience the Everyday Holiness of our Lives

oct 2017

The practice of mindful awareness can help us be present with whatever is in any given moment. The “whatever” may be something we relish or desire; or something unpleasant, even painful and unwelcome. To be mindful is to be able to hold it without our usual judgments and be present with the moment as it is. It can enable us to experience the richness, the “everyday holiness” of our lives.

Kathleen will define Mindfulness- Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), exploring four types of mindful attention: silent sitting, walking, yoga and body scan. She will also address fundamental attitudes to the mindful approach, including the role of healthy skepticism.

Dr. Occhipinti received her PhD from Loyola University of Chicago, and postgraduate training in mindfulness education at the University of Massachusetts Medical School Center of Mindfulness, and Harvard University Mind Body Center. She is Co-Director of Behavioral Science at St. Joseph Hospital/Northwestern University Family Medicine Residency and has an ongoing counseling and organizational consulting practice. She has presented extensively to a wide variety of audiences and was interviewed for two weekly business reports on Anxiety in the Workplace following the 9/11 attacks.
