Happy Labor Day! Let us use this Labor Day holiday to give thanks to God for our freedom to seek work in a field of our choosing, with the just assurance of a reasonable wage. Let us be mindful of those who are unemployed or underemployed. Let us also be respectful of all forms of human labor and the dignity it affords us to be co-creators with the Almighty.
Two weeks ago, Fr. Dave Straub informed me that his cancer is back, and he is in consultation with his oncologists about a treatment plan. Last week, in a phone conversation, he mentioned that he had chosen to go with traditional chemotherapy for the next six to eight months. While grateful for our patience, Fr. Straub informed the archdiocesan officials and me that due to this unexpected news, he would not be able to serve in the capacity needed to fulfill his role as associate pastor. Please keep Fr. Straub and all who assist him in your prayers as he goes through his treatment.
In light of this news, I am in conversation with the concerned persons in the archdiocese to have a much-needed associate appointed to Queen of All Saints. By this time of the year, all appointments to parishes have been made. Finding one readily is a challenge when there is a shortage of priests. Our best bet is to wait for those returning from a sabbatical in January of 2023 to fill our needs. Until then, I will need assistance for the next four months. So, you will see some new faces filling in for Masses and other liturgical celebrations. I ask for your prayers and patience as we seek an associate pastor.
Next weekend, on Sunday, September 11, I invite you to join us at 11am for our Mass on the Field, followed by the Parish Oktoberfest. Please note that there will be NO 12:30pm Mass next Sunday. Along with our Mass on the Field and Oktoberfest, the Parish Pastoral Council is setting up a Ministry Fair at our celebrations next Sunday. The Ministry Fair is an opportunity to know and get involved with one or more of the parish's many ministries. Whether you are inclined towards a ministry connected with the celebration of the Eucharist, one to share your faith, a ministry to reach out in service to the needy, or one to build and celebrate our community, there is an opportunity for each and every one of us. I encourage you to spend some time at this weekend's Ministry Fair. I look forward to seeing you around.
