I am honored to be your new associate pastor, as my time with all of you will officially begin on Friday, July 1st, 2022. I am eager to join your pastor, Fr. Simon Braganza and your wonderful parish and school staff to continue the mission of the Church.
The mission of the Church remains the same as in ages past: to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ for the salvation of souls. The life of the Church takes many forms as a result of this mission, such as prayer, worship, sacraments, education, activity, and fellowship. Queen of All Saints has a rich tradition in all of these things, and more.
I was ordained by Joseph Cardinal Bernardin on May 21st, 1994 at Holy Name Cathedral. I have served the Archdiocese of Chicago for 28 years as an associate pastor, administrator, and at times, a pastor. My work as a priest began on Chicago’s south side in the African American community, and has continued through several suburban assignments, such as St. Zachary in Des Plaines (2004-2009), Prince of Peace in Lake Villa (2009-2015), and most recently, Sacred Heart in Palos Hills (2017-2022).
In 2015, I was appointed pastor of Queen of the Rosary Parish in Elk Grove Village. However, a double pneumonia, a blood infection, open heart surgery, and mantel cell lymphoma all required much treatment and healing, forcing me to resign my pastorate. I am a survivor of two traditional rounds of chemotherapy, and currently take oral chemo (pills) to manage the lymphoma. I have reached remission several times, as my situation is always being monitored.
So I understand well the necessity of faith, the power of prayer, and the reality of hope. But these things were always the foundation of my family of origin. I am the youngest of four children. My brother George and my sisters, Kathryn and Colleen all have adult children and are now grandparents. My father, George, lives in Plainfield (near Joliet) and my mother, Marion, has been deceased since 1998. All of us have deep roots from Chicago’s south side and south suburbs.
I graduated from Marian Catholic High School (Chicago Heights) in 1981, and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Valparaiso University in 1985. I am a second vocation priest, first working as a newspaper reporter and photographer for several suburban and regional outlets. I am a White Sox fan, and enjoy many other sports, especially football. When time permits, traveling is a great joy.
