Stewardship Ideas: Gifts of Appreciated Securities

These are unusual time for investors.  Despite a difficult 2022 the stock market has experienced solid returns so far in 2023-2024.  In fact, the market has risen over 80% over the past five years, yet the benefits of a rising market are not shared equally among all, including throughout our parish.

This is an opportunity for those of us with the means to do so to step up and help our parish maintain the financial strength to be present for every member at every stage of our lives, from the very young to the very old.

Those who are fortunate to have participated in these gains now have an excellent opportunity to maximize their charitable giving in a tax-efficient way.

Transfers of appreciated securities allow a donor to make a gift without paying capital gains tax on their gains, thereby increasing both the amount of their gift and the amount of their charitable deduction.

If you are able, please consider this option for your giving, especially now as we contemplate significant expense to replace the very major 60+ year-old air conditioning mechanics in the basilica which are long beyond their useful life, as well as to expand that capacity to other buildings on our campus.

Gifts of appreciated securities can be designated for 100% deposit to our parish endowments.
