Here’s how our “new church” looked in May 1957, midway through its construction.
When Masses were finally celebrated in this magnificent space in July 1959, the proud members of this parish (especially those very few who had been parishioners a mere 25 years earlier when we had only 40 families) could take a moment to reflect on how far they had come. They had built not just a mass of brick and mortar but, more importantly, a strong and vibrant faith community for the future.
When we sit in the basilica today, in the same pews those brave pioneers occupied, we can still feel the energy that stirred them to build for the future, in grateful recognition of the great gifts we have received from God and the need to share those gifts with our fellow parishioners, both today and for tomorrow.
Our single parish-wide fundraiser is this Friday. The United Parish Program is a critical part of the financial resources needed to support our parish, including the many ministries that touch each and every one of us, from the very youngest to our oldest.
