If Christ’s words stir you, the food pantry and soup kitchen at St. Thomas of Canterbury (4827 N. Kenmore in Uptown) are a great way to put your faith into action.
St. Thomas of Canterbury has been a QAS sharing parish for decades, with a rich legacy of QAS’ funding and volunteers serving at the soup kitchen and food pantry. The pantry needs a few more volunteers who can help on a regular basis on Mondays 8:30 am to noon to help clients shop, and/or Wednesdays 10:00-12:30 to receive donated food. The soup kitchen needs volunteers on Tuesdays and Fridays early afternoons to help prep the soup.
The only requirement to be a volunteer is a willingness to serve; foreign language skills (especially Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin/Cantonese, Korean, and Polish) to help in communicating with clients is helpful; a strong back is a plus for Wednesday’s food deliveries.
If you or anyone you know is interested, please email QAS parishioner John Ceisel who is the acting food pantry manager at [email protected].
