Just when we thought we were getting ahead with containing the spread of the COVID virus, the Delta strain is a reminder that this is not an easy virus we can get rid of. At the time this letter goes to press, in accordance with the directives from the Archdiocese, we strongly recommend the use of masks indoors. We are aware that this is a situation in flux, and should we receive further instructions from the Archdiocese, we will follow them.
However, we keep moving forward with the hope that someday soon we will be able to return to some semblance of the days of old. Most of us have been busy over the summer, trying to get in some R & R and visit with family and friends we haven’t been able to see in person over the past year. Here at the parish and the school, we have been busy with construction and other regular maintenance odds and ends. We are nearing the end of the final phase of our Capital Campaign and are getting the school ready for the new academic year beginning on August 25.
The start of the school year also marks the return of several of our parish ministry activities. As a part of that return, the Parish Pastoral Council and the Men’s Club are planning a special Mass and Oktoberfest on Sunday, September 12. On that day, weather permitting, we will celebrate the 11am Mass outside, on the field. Come with your family, bring your lawn chairs and take part, first in the celebration of the table of the Lord and then in the Men’s Club feast of brats, sausages and hotdogs. Of course, there will be fun and games for the kids. Please note that on this day there will be no 12:30 Mass. Watch the bulletin for more details.
Enjoy the few remaining days of summer. I look forward to seeing you soon in and around the basilica.
